Master of Social Work

Degree Program

The Department of Social Work is pleased to offer a three-year part-time Master of Social Work (MSW) Program. This program is designed for working human services professionals interested in earning an MSW degree. This Council on Social Work (CSWE) accredited program is designed to train social workers for leadership and direct practice positions. The program has a multicultural focus that prepares students to work in both non-profit and public agencies, and to work with diverse populations in urban and suburban communities. Classes are offered year round on Saturdays and hybrid or on-line. Students take 7 courses per year and are placed in a field internship during the second year of the program.

Program Objectives

The objective of the MSW program is to address the growing need for social workers to work with individuals, families, groups, and organizations. The focus of the program is work with target populations in ways that enable and empower them to participate in the social work change process. The program prepares individuals to be agents for change and to work effectively in an increasingly complex, culturally and racially diverse society.  Individuals in the program will learn to understand and respond to racism, sexism, homophobia, and other forms of oppression that create and maintain barriers to well-being and participation in society.

Who Should Attend

Working professionals with a Bachelor’s degree and a strong interest in earning a MSW with an emphasis on mental health or family life across the lifespan. The MSW program welcomes individuals with diverse life experiences, including those with disabilities, people with lived experience as consumers or family members of mental health services, members of the LGBTQ community, and members of racial and ethnic groups that are underrepresented in the social work profession.
