Certificate Program

The California State University, East Bay Certificate in Coding, Reimbursement and Documentation gives physicians and medical office managers the up-to-date knowledge they need to ensure they are coding and billing services properly and in compliance with regulations such as HIPAA.

Those who take advantage of Cal State East Bay's program will be best equipped to minimize documentation errors and maximize reimbursements and best prepared for audits, all of which will ultimately give them more time to focus on patient care. Offered in partnership with Gatlin Education Services, our program's online-only format makes it convenient for anyone in the world, not just those who live or work in the San Francisco East Bay Area.

Students who enter the program should have a working knowledge of medical billing practices, medical coding and medical terminology.

Program Objectives

• To give graduates the knowledge and skills necessary to create effective, efficient and compliant documentation.
• To prepare graduates to create and implement a successful compliance plan.
• To provide graduates an in-depth understanding of how to document multiple or single organ system examinations for a wide range of specialties
• To give graduates familiarity with the Office of Inspector General's (OIG) Work Plan so that they know what services may be targeted for audits in the coming year.
• To give graduates an up-to-date knowledge of teaching physician guidelines.
